If you combine significant director-level HR experience supporting multi-location industrial or manufacturing organization(s) with proven change management skills and the ability to build a high-impact HR team in a heavy-growth environment, this position offers you some very compelling opportunities.   • Support growth in our existing facilities as well as serve as the right hand to the president, assisting with new sites and acquisitions. 
  • Provide both strategic and tactical leadership to support day-to-day operations and long-range corporate initiatives. For example, in short order, you'll shore up the HR structure ensuring team members understand their areas of ownership while also building a cultural foundation that will support rapid growth and create an environment where employees can build a successful career.

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business. In addition, to be a good fit for the Director of Human Resources opportunity, you will have:
  • PHR, SPHR, or GPHR certifications preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience at the HR Director level Quick question for you - click here
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing locations, including a large facility with a minimum of 500 people  
  • Excellent Generalist skills with strong business acumen and proven success in change management, and developing HR teams and processes
  • Thorough understanding of employment laws and regulations; experience with California employment law is a plus
  • Proven ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization
  • Ability to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment requiring a strong sense of urgency and clear communication
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with MS Office Suite and HR tools such as UKG, UltiPro or Kronos (we are in the process of a UKG implementation)
  • Labor relations experience preferred
  • Experience in the automotive assembly space is an advantage
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 30%, as well as locally between the Bristol and Charlotte facilities

Reporting to the President and working closely with the CHRO, your high reaching mission will be to continuously pursue HR functional excellence and support the Shyft Group’s strategy with a specific focus on maximizing organizational capabilities and creating a high performing, highly engaged culture throughout the FVS division. 

As Human Resources Director, you will manage an 8+ person team of HR Managers supporting sites including a large, multi-plant campus in Charlotte, MI, a large plant in Bristol, and additional plants in Kansas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Mexico. These are busy plants with several running multiple shifts, and with HR Managers needing strong leadership and clear communication. You will not be responsible for developing structure, that comes from Corporate, but you will be responsible for driving corporate initiatives locally. Growth is putting a heavy focus on culture, talent acquisition, employee engagement and retention. While strategy will be an important element of your position, the scope of the role requires a director willing to do a good deal of tactical work.

To give you a sense of the role, here is a sampling of specific responsibilities. You will:
  • Plan, organize, and direct HR-related activities to meet or exceed established goals in a cost-effective manner
  • Lead, communicate, and coach to cultivate a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and business ownership
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the divisions budget and manage expenses within approved budget constraints
  • Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Stay up to date on overall activities of the team, identify problem areas and take corrective actions
  • Collaborate with other HR Managers to drive consistent process excellence across Human Resources in areas such as talent acquisition, retention, performance management, rewards and recognition, employee engagement, leadership development, succession planning, communications, and cultures
  • Assist HR Manager in defining workforce planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Establish HR-specific performance metrics
  • Establish performance monitoring and assessment and reward processes, ensuring process and tools are understood and fully utilized
  • Coach and develop your team; ensure you have the right resources in place to drive HR excellence across the division
  • Drive talent review and management processes including succession planning for key roles
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and employment laws including an Affirmative Action Plan
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with policies and practices within the facilities, ensuring fair and consistent application
