To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Mechanical or Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering. Quick question for you - click here In addition, to be a good fit for the Supplier Quality Engineer opportunity, you will have:
  • 5+ years of relevant supplier quality engineering/quality systems experience, ideally in automotive or other industry with formal quality programs
  • Knowledge of basic email, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software; Minitab knowledge is a plus
  • Relevant professional certifications, such as ASQ-CSQP, CQE or Six Sigma are a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to:
    • Influence and motivate others
    • Lead and work with cross-functional teams
    • A collaborative approach along with a willingness to be assertive as necessary
    • Strong follow-up and follow-through habits

For the duration of the pandemic, travel will be somewhat limited, but once it is safe to do so, you should expect to travel 50% to 70% of the time. Most travel will be in the Midwest, but other domestic and international travel will be required.

You can expect to invest the majority of your time in four areas:
  • Solving supplier problems that impact multiple facilities
  • Working with the warranty team to cascade teams and conditions, resolve issues, validate chargebacks and more
  • Developing and monitoring the supply base, including implementing supplier scorecards, evaluating processes, regularly review top suppliers and more
  • Develop a robust supplier quality manual, communicate it to the supply base, and ensure suppliers adhere to it
A sampling of more specific responsibilities:
  • Assess and develop potential new suppliers
  • Monitor Supplier Performance and identify improvement opportunities
  • Initiate and close supplier improvement action plans based on performance data
  • Serve as a liaison between Utilimaster plants and suppliers
  • Champion the problem-solving process for significant issues, such as major line disruptions or issues affecting multiple plants
  • Identify high-risk suppliers for both current production and new product launches using historical, current, and forecasted data
  • Validate supplier capacity and process capability for high-risk suppliers with on-site run-at-rates
